SMEMA Hermes Bridge

With the introduction of the IPC-HERMES-9852 standard it is possible to pass PCB-related data within the electronics production from machine to machine via an open protocol based on TCP/IP and XML. The previously used SMEMA standard will be replaced.

You want to benefit from the new M2M communication standard
IPC-HERMES-9852, but still have the problem that you have many machines that can only communicate via IPC-SMEMA-9851?

Of course, the most obvious solution is to ask the supplier of the machine if he can provide you with an update to the new Hermes standard. But what do you do if the supplier no longer exists or the update is very extensive or for some reason not possible at all?

Selma - can help you close this gap. Selma, a SMEMA Hermes Bridge, was developed to communicate with the old devices via SMEMA and convert these signals into Hermes telegrams and vice versa.

Therefore, the existing SMEMA upline and downline cables will be connected to the bridge and the Hermes network to interoperate with upstream and downstream machines.

The bridge is a hardware device with upline and downline SMEMA connectors, an Ethernet port for Hermes connections, and an optional serial port for integrating scanners.

Selma at start of line

Selma start of line
Selma enables a loading unit to be integrated into the Hermes network. This can be a loading unit with magazines or a stack of printed circuit boards. In connection with a barcode reader or an RFID scanner, the circuit board ID and even the magazine ID can be brought into the line.

There is also the option of calling up the respective order via MES communication together with our "Device Management Portal" user interface and also bringing it into the line as additional information. Selma thus serves as a full-fledged data supplier at the start of the line and thus supplies downstream machines with the necessary information about the Hermes standard.

Selma in the line

Selma bridge
Selma enables the integration of a machine that is not Hermes compatible into the Hermes network. The Selma - SMEMA Hermes Brdige is used to close the gap between Smema and Hermes. Width adjustment is available depending on the machine manufacturer.

Furthermore, there is the possibility to visualize and track the respective circuit board data via our user interface "Device Management Portal".

Selma - Reinsert

Selma Reinsert
Selma enables the controlled return of PCBs taken out of the process by providing various Reinsert options.
In combination with a barcode reader, data can be requested from the previous machine or restored via the Selma.

Selma - Errorloop

Selma Errorloop
Selma enables a adequate error loop to be guaranteed across multiple machines without any additional cabling or installation work.
All you need for this is a Selma at the beginning and at the end of the required error loop.

Selma Entladeeinheit
Selma enables the integration of a unloading unit into the Hermes network. In connection with a barcode reader or an RFID scanner, the circuit board IDs can be combined with a magazine ID and reported back to a higher-level system. This gives you full control over your data.
